What are mechanical rights?

Mechanical rights are the legal entitlements of songwriters, composers and music publishers to receive compensation when their works are streamed on demand, used in digital applications, downloaded, reproduced into physical products such as CDs and vinyl records, or utilized in various other means protected under Copyright Law.

How does AllTrack serve music creators and publishers for mechanical rights?

As a global music rights organization, AllTrack collects mechanical license fees from thousands of businesses around the world that reproduce and distribute music and pays these amounts to its members in the form of mechanical royalties.

Where do mechanical royalties come from?

Mechanical royalties are paid by businesses such as interactive streaming services (Spotify, Apple, etc.), social media services (YouTube, Meta, TikTok, etc.), digital applications (gaming, fitness, karaoke, etc.), digital download services, international radio and satellite platforms, international TV platforms, labels that contract to reproduce music into physical product (vinyl, CDs, etc.), and manufacturers of blank CDs and audio playback devices.

I already receive royalties from the MLC, should I still join AllTrack for mechanical rights?

Yes, registering with the MLC only entitles you to a portion of your mechanical royalties – the portion related to interactive streaming audio and limited digital downloads. Under law, the MLC is prohibited from collecting many other forms of mechanical royalties that creators and publishers are entitled to including all forms of international royalties (digital, radio, TV or otherwise), video royalties (YouTube, TikTok, fitness apps, gaming apps, etc.), and physical royalties (vinyl, CDs, etc.). With AllTrack, you can receive mechanical royalties from all of these sources (including the MLC). You will also have access to experts at AllTrack who properly manage catalogs at the MLC and other international rights organizations to avoid common registration mistakes, so that you can maximize your earnings.

Can I join AllTrack for just mechanical rights?

Yes, even if you are a member of another PRO for performing rights, we can still collect mechanical royalties for you.

Some of my songs are already administered by another provider, can I join AllTrack to collect royalties on my remaining songs?

Yes, AllTrack can represent you for just some of your songs or assist you with consolidating all of your songs into a single account.

How are mechanical royalty rates determined?

In the United States, mechanical royalty rates are set by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), a panel of three judges appointed by the Library of Congress who re-evaluate rates every five years. In the rest of the world, there are typically similar governing bodies in each country that set local country royalty rates.

Does AllTrack collect retroactive royalties?

Yes, we always attempt to collect royalties from prior periods, subject to legal statutes of limitations and any rules and regulations that exist at international collection societies.

Will I give up any ownership in my songs by registering with AllTrack?

No. With AllTrack, you always retain 100% ownership of your songs.

Is there a fee to join AllTrack, and how often will I get paid?

There is no fee to join. At AllTrack, we earn a 15% commission on the royalty revenues that we collect, meaning that we don't get paid unless you get paid. AllTrack pays royalties to its members quarterly. You can view the AllTrack royalty payout schedule here.
